Early 19th Century Oak Linen Press
A handsome early 19th-century oak linen press, probably Welsh, with beautifully figured grain, a rich warm colour and understated decorative detailing.
A projecting moulded cornice sits above a contrasting veneered frieze with fine linear decoration and a small central inlaid panel. Two panelled doors, framed by slender corner columns, open to reveal a spacious cupboard with two shelves.
Below, two short drawers sit above two generous full-width drawers, all with turned wooden knobs. Shaped bracket feet complete the piece, giving its substantial form an elegant lift.
Offering plenty of useful storage, this is a lovely piece for folded linens and clothing in a bedroom, or crockery and table linen in a kitchen or dining room. Its simple lines and warm oak would sit comfortably in both a country house and a more contemporary interior.
Professionally restored and polished, including repairs to the decorative veneer around the upper section and sides, it is presented in very good antique condition. Age-related marks and variations remain, reflecting its history and character
