Antique Victorian Gilt Overmantel Mirror

A striking antique Victorian gilt overmantel mirror dating from the late 19th century, beautifully carved in the richly decorative Rococo Revival style.

The substantial gilt frame features an elaborate pierced crest centred with a shell motif, framed by scrolling acanthus leaves and intricate foliate ornament. Deep relief carving sits against a textured ground, creating exceptional depth and shadow. An inner gilt slip surrounds the original mirror plate, adding definition and elegance.

The aged gilded finish has developed a warm, mellow patina, with darker tones enhancing the carved detail and giving the piece authentic character.
